GOING OUT LIKE A SOLDIER AWARD GOES TO CALIFORNIA SPEAKER OF THE ASSEMBLY KAREN BASS

Out here in California, we have been forced to endure a budget standoff that has dragged on for more than 2 months. As a result California has no official budget, so in essence can't pay its bills. Another consequence A major reason for this is that California is one of three states (Along with Arkansas and Rhode Island) that has to have at least a two thirds majority for anything to pass in the legislature. So much of the proposals that would have put an end to the crisis went down in flames because a small group of Republican legislators consistently opposed them. Now the "Governator" is threatening to veto the budget that was approved late tuesday by state lawmakers and later said he would kill hundreds of bills if lawmakers override his veto. Boy, I think ol' Arnold that the rough tactics of many of his movie characters is the way to go.

Thank goodness for Assembly Speaker Karen Bass. This is the person who was largely instrumental in getting both parties at the table and ironing out what became the proposed state budget. She is well liked and respected by both Democrats and Republicans in House and has repeatedly stood up to the "Governator" in spite of his callous threats. I am confident that she will help to solve this problem so the state can move forward and repair the damage.
